Some of you may have noticed it’s been a little quiet around here in the month of March. Some of you having read that last sentence will have realised you hadn’t noticed at all. Either way is fine, and this post, as a way saying a little welcome back from me to me, is a little different.
The exciting reason I haven’t posted in a couple of weeks is I was in Venice! For most of my trip there I had a wonderful time. For one day though, I had food poisoning so severe I considered letting the World Health Organisation know, in case I was some kind of faecal-patient zero. I’m fine now but have been taking it fairly easy, hence, no posts for a while.
So there will be plenty of content coming your way all about Venice, including gondolas and islands of the dead and grand canals and all that good stuff. But in the meantime, I have just one Venice-related announcement: choose the bar in which you eat your cicchetti wisely. Particularly the kind of cicchetti that has fish.
Since I was struck down by the sort of illness you really can write home about, some of you who know me in real life have asked whether I really will be writing home about it, here on Not That You Asked. I didn’t want to just drop all of the gory details right here in your lap, though, since I know how that feels. So I thought, let’s be democratic and have a vote. Let me know whether you want to hear all about how my insides became, quite swiftly, my outsides.
Now, with that out of the way, I thought this would be a good time to plug a few guest posts and/or interviews I’ve done in the last few months. Some are recent and some are less so but I had a lot of fun doing all of them, so I thought I’d give them a proper shout out.
Caravanserai with Samantha Childress
I was honoured when
asked me to be featured in her Wanderlust Salon, a travel series about new places, new experiences and new perspectives. I talked all about England and had a lot of fun doing so. Subscribe to Sam while you’re there. She’s for my money one of the best writers working on Substack today. The Books That Made Us
In December I was a guest poster on
‘s . I talked all about Bill Bryson - something I could do for hours - specifically his book Neither Here Nor There, and why this was a book that inspired me to write the way I do now. Mikey also writes which is great for those of you who love travelling and the world. The Matterhorn podcast
And since it’s nearly spring here in London it’s time to start thinking again about summer travel. Last year I was featured on
‘s , specifically her podcast all about summer travel. This was my first ever appearance on a podcast (discounting a short-lived foray into university radio to talk about Star Wars) and I had an awesome time. Thanks again Kate for having me.Sam, Mikey and Kate have all featured on Speedy Boarding too, so check those interviews out when you get the chance!
That’s all for now, but I’ll be back on Thursday with another Speedy Boarding interview, this time featuring
. See you then and watch out for fish that tastes a bit too fishy, it might just be out to get you.
You should have asked me about the cicchetti places! 😁😁 Can't wait to read about Venice!
All the gory detail!!
